The DuSable Bridge

The Michigan Ave bridge is officially called DuSable Bridge, named after the man considered to be the first non-native settler.

DuSable's Bust

Chicago's first permanent resident was Jean Bapiste du Sable, a free black man probably from Haiti. Although no one knows for sure what he looked like, the city erected a bust for him just north of the river, near where he first settled.
