The World Columbian Exposition in 1893 featured a movable walkway which, during the fair, it carried 997,785 people, up to 6,000 at a time, for 6 cents per seat.

Columbian Exposition's Fire
The World Columbian Exposition of 1893, largely intended to show the world Chicago's rebirth after the fire two years prior, suffered from several fires, and within nine months following its close, most of the "White City" had been destroyed by fire.
